This year at Wizard World Chicago was my first with my Sugar Gamers Family. I was tasked with observing the cosplay.
Of all the years I’ve been to comic cons, while I’ve taken notice of the cosplay, I can honestly say I never paid attention to it in the way in which I did at this year’s Wizard World Chicago. This time around, I was set on a mission to find those with unique outfits, but particularly couples. Some were a bit on the generic side, but others were outstanding.
For instance, this female duo that went out as Bill and Ted. I actually spied “Bill” sitting alone at a coffee table, and knew instantly who she was. When I asked for a photo, in her best Bill S. Preston voice she replied, “Sure! Ted and Genghis Khan are right over there!” She then turned on the awesomely made photo booth, lighting it up, and picked up her guitar. Theodore Ted Logan was also in character; Genghis Khan was not. Still! It was an incredibly epic moment in cosplay.
My other favorite innovative couples were the simplicity of a Dr. Grant and Dr. Ellie Sadler, or the noted Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, or the throwback of Jareth the Goblin King and Sarah.
One day, I too would like to dress up as Harley Quinn or Michonne or Lucy Ricardo, and have a partner to cosplay with. There’s always next year.
